Career Advancement for Professionals

AACA Career Advancement for Professionals (CAP) is an innovative ESOL program that blends distance learning, classroom instruction, and job search activities designed to meet the educational and employment needs of immigrants with college degrees and professional backgrounds from their native countries so that they can reclaim their careers.

Juan

Juan was an IT System Engineer in Colombia for six year before he came to the United States in October, 2016. Although his English was quite good and his resume is very professional, he wasn't able to find a job in his field. He began working at Walgreen's as a Customers Assistance. After completed our program, he ws hird as a Desktop Support Engineer for a Cambrige based company.

Maihati

Maihati earned a degree in anesthesiology in China before moving to Boston. Upon moving here with his family, he was unable to get into his field. Since enrolling in the program, he has joined and completed two medical certification program. He is now working at Metrowest Medical Center. 

Student Requirements:

​

  • high intermediate English ability in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and grammar

  • college degree from another country

  • interested in returning to work in your profession

  • motivated and self-disciplined about learning

  • work authorization in the US

  • PC or laptop with camera and microphone

What is the class structure and schedule?

​​

  • 18 weeks of instruction

  • Job Search with Employment Specialist by appointments

  • Program starts twice a year

What is the course curriculum?

​

  • Online

    • Grammar, job readiness, U.S. work culture, workplace English

    • ESL skills: pronunciation, conversation, vocabulary, and writing.

What are the technical requirements for the online portion of this class?

​​

  • Have access to a working PC with internet, microphone and webcam

Do I need to pay to be a student in the AACA CAP program?

​

  • AACA CAP is offered free of charge to qualified students.

  • AACA receives support from English for New Bostonians and other private donors.
