When Employers Invest in Talent

Betty Chan, Senior Branch Manager of Santander Bank in Chinatown, visited the Careers in Banking and Finance class this fall to present to the students about the latest in digital banking. Santander is one of the more than forty banks that partner with AACA. Our partner banks help the students out in many different ways including visiting to present on banking topics and making themselves available to advise on students’ job searches.

During the six week class the students learn about the US banking industry, English communication, customer service, news analysis, Excel, resume development, and  job searching and interviewing skills.

The classes are very diverse. The latest cohort included students from Egypt, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Haiti, Morocco, Dominican Republic, China, Jamaica, and also the US. 

The students’ experience ranges from recent high school graduates to some with college degrees and years of professional experience in banking in other countries. 

All are focussing on improving their lives, some riding trains every day from as far away as Providence and Fall River. 

They have been expressing enthusiasm and gratitude for what they’re learning and looking forward to launching their new careers. 

After the end of the course our work with them continues as we help them with every step of job searching. Even after they start their job we stay in touch for two years to support them to insure they are improving and growing in their careers.
